Union Hall Gardens Community Clean-Up 2018

On Saturday 2nd June, 2018, ALTech Energy hosted a clean-up for the residents of Union Hall Gardens, San Fernando by partnering with the local community council. The clean-up consisted of 35 volunteers with majority hailing from the Union Hall Gardens community. Volunteers from other neighbouring communities were also invited to participate as we commemorated World Environment Day 2018.

Volunteers were separated into various groups to target different areas within the community. They were provided with biodegradable bags and gloves to assist with the cleaning. As part of the Think Green Initiative, the trash collected was sorted into plastic, glass and general waste for recycling purposes.

The Think Green Initiative is a programme for young persons to offer themselves and their expertise in a range of environmentally friendly practices as we push for Trinidad and Tobago to move toward a greener and more environmentally friendly future.

At the end of a very successful clean-up, a total 51 garbage bags were filled. 17 bags of plastic, 15 bags of glass and 19 bags of other waste materials were collected. The plastic and glass filled bags were sent to be recycled while the remaining trash was collected by the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation.

ALTech Energy would like to thank MP Dr. Roodal Moonilal, who was present to encourage and acknowledge the work being done, The Environmental Management Authority for supplying the biodegradable bags and gloves and the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation for collecting the general waste. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Union Hall Gardens Community Council and all volunteers for supporting this venture.
